5 plants that require minimal light

Plants that enjoy a bit of shade
Many people shy away from adding some greenery at home, thinking that they need rooms bathed in sunlight. But that’s just not true! In nature, plenty of plants grow in the shade of tree canopies, so there’s no reason why they can’t thrive in similar conditions in your home.
Many plants do not need light. One big plus of having plants that thrive in dark conditions is they require less water, so you don’t need to worry about frequent watering.
1. Mother-in-law’s tongue or snake plant (sansevieria trifasciata)
This plant will bring a vintage look to any dark room. It is very tolerant of low light levels but equally as happy in sunlight. And it’s perfect for travellers, as it doesn’t require frequent watering.
The snake plant is one of the easiest plants to maintain.
2. Bird’s nest fern or asplenium nidus
This member of the fern family looks like it has come straight out of the Jurassic period. Handy tip: avoid watering it in its centre as this can cause new leaves to rot.
3. Heartleaf philodendron
This plant is ideal for a bohemian vibe, complete with hanging wicker pots. Its leaves provide a lush cascade of greenery. Since they don’t need frequent watering, philodendrons can quite easily be hung and left to themselves.
4. Zamioculcas zamiifolia or ZZ plant
This peculiar, elegant plant is extremely hardy. It prefers a lack of water to overwatering. As for light, it’s just as happy in a dark or sunny corner of the house.
5. Parlour palm or chamaedorea elegans
Why not give your home a holiday look with a palm tree? This plant will go great in the dark corner of a low-light room. When its leaves get dusty, simply pop it under the shower for a gentle clean.
